Shona Manning

Physiotherapist

Bachelor of Physiotherapy

Shona was an avid young artist that became fascinated in the human body. An art curator once commented that she could be a physio given my obsession with anatomy. Seed Planted.

“None of my family expected me to get into the degree and thought I’d become artist. I even thought I’d be a medical illustrator, and when I was offered a position as a Physiotherapist I was shocked, but from the first week knew I was going to love what I did” Shona told us.

Shona is a bit of an over-achiever, though she’ll probably tell you that she’s just been in the right place at the right time. More than that, just loves to help and has a fascination with musculoskeletal physiotherapy, neurological conditions, rehabilitation, and balance/vestibular complaints.

Shona particularly loves helping older patients to keep doing things they cherish. She spent three years at Charles Sturt University (CSU) and the University of Sydney (USYD), helping older adults become more active, hearing about their lives and being able to share the joy of someone who thought they would never improve.

While working in a trial program providing allied health needs free of charge to the community, Shona learnt how to use screening tools to match patient needs with appropriate consultants. A skill that we value highly… and it’s not just us that see her value. One of the top falls prevention researchers asked her to do a PhD following her involvement in a research project. It was a huge compliment and a tempting offer. Lucky for us at Revive (and our patients) Shona moved to Tassie instead.

Shona is also a proud mum avid cook, gardener, and nature enthusiast finding balance and inspiration in the great outdoors.

She probably wouldn’t describe herself this way, but it seems that she has an attraction to things that are borderline extreme, having

sailed to Antarctica on a pirate ship across the Drake Passage… and recently deciding that just playing hockey for 20 years wasn’t enough for her… so she donned a mountain of protective gear and became a goal keeper!!
