Reception... and other stuff...

 

When it comes to selecting the right people to sit at our reception desk… we seem to have had a golden patch. Maybe it’s a conscious process, or maybe it’s just that fortune smiled on us.

 

We need skills… juggling is one example. Not everyone can juggle three callers at once while signing in a new patient. And even those that can, are often unable to do it while retaining their sense of humour as well as a measure of empathy and understanding.

 

It might just come down to employing people with more diverse experiences than the norm. All of our receptionists are exceptional and Jen is no exception.

 

Jen was an elite athlete… top level basketballer in fact… and she finished 17th in the Point to Pinnacle- she asked us to leave that out, but we think it’s pretty impressive… so… sorry Jen.

 

This kind of knowledge is always helpful when it comes to understanding injury and struggle and pointing a patient to the right kind of clinician.

 

More importantly than that though, is that she was also teacher (with a Bachelor of Human Movement) that worked with the toughest group of students to handle – Grade 8 boys that were already struggling to fit in. She has the patience of a saint and if you see her without a smile on her face, she’s probably staring at a screen or chatting with a bot. It definitely doesn’t happen when she’s interreacting with people.

 

Overqualified? Yeah maybe. But we’re pretty happy she’s here. That kind of knowledge, understanding and temperament will make your visit more pleasant and probably more productive.
